On the Zaporizhzhia direction, Russian forces are attempting to cross the so-called “kill zone” up to 10 km wide in order to reach forward positions and carry out assaults. However, Ukraine’s Defense Forces are striking Russian concentration areas and actively destroying Russian equipment.
This was reported in a television broadcast by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for the Southern Defense Forces.
“First of all, the Russians are conducting assaults from forward positions, but to reach them they need to pass through the ‘kill zone’, which is currently quite wide — at least about 10 kilometers, and even more, because we are in a steppe area,” he said.
According to the spokesperson, the enemy first carries out operations to move personnel to forward positions and build up assault groups.
“We try to strike them at this stage and prevent these movements. Why do we have fewer combat clashes on the Orikhiv direction? Because we act proactively,” Voloshyn explained.
He also described the Huliaipole direction, where due to high-intensity fighting the Russian forces is reinforcing its forward positions more actively, using light motorized transport such as motorcycles, buggies, and quad bikes.
“Over the past day, we destroyed three dozen motorcycles that were being used to move to forward positions. In addition, we record one or two such enemy assaults daily involving motorcycles and light vehicles. The enemy also tries to bring in and conceal armored vehicles, but we detect them using our intelligence and aerial reconnaissance and destroy them as well,” he said.
