Chernihiv has become the first Ukrainian city to join the international Pioneering Places programme of the World Economic Forum’s global urban development platform (Davos Baukultur Alliance), according to First Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development Alona Shkrum.
“The first Ukrainian city has joined the Davos programme. The participants already include Nairobi, San Francisco, Utrecht, Montreal, and Kuala Lumpur. And now — Chernihiv as well. This is a programme where cities, governments, architects, urban planners, business, and municipal authorities jointly seek practical solutions — from infrastructure and housing to ecology, cultural heritage, and the city’s economy,” she wrote on Facebook.

She said that participation in the programme gives Chernihiv access to international expertise and partnerships, as well as opportunities to attract funding for reconstruction projects through participants of the Davos forum.

Shkrum also noted that the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development and the Ministry of Culture have submitted applications for several Ukrainian cities that meet the programme’s criteria.
