Following talks with the defense ministers of Belgium and Spain, Ukraine’s Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov reported that Belgium will allocate €1 billion in defense assistance to Ukraine this year and has confirmed its intention to transfer additional F-16 fighter jets, while Spain is also providing €1 billion in support for Ukraine.
“I held talks with Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken and Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles. We synchronized key areas of cooperation – strengthening air defense, developing drone capabilities, and the ‘Czech initiative’ to ensure the front is supplied with long-range artillery capabilities,” the statement posted Monday evening on Telegram reads.

According to him, Belgium will allocate €1 billion in defense aid to Ukraine this year and has confirmed plans to transfer additional F-16 fighter jets, as well as ensure the supply of spare parts for existing aircraft.
Spain is also providing €1 billion in support to Ukraine in 2026. During the talks, the parties focused on developing defense cooperation, particularly within the European SAFE mechanism. Ukraine offered the opportunity to test Spanish drones in combat conditions.
“We are ready to provide a list of manufacturers that could establish cooperation with Spanish companies. For its part, Ukraine also offered the opportunity to test Spanish drones in combat conditions,” Fedorov said.
