Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, held the first and very lengthy coordination meeting with national security advisors representing Germany, Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Finland, as well as the EU and NATO.
Yermak wrote about this on Telegram.
“Together, we are moving clearly according to the priorities set by the leaders. Everything must be very concrete and effective to prevent a repeat of aggression. We remember the ‘Budapest’ mistake and decades of declarative statements. In our time, there will be no mistakes,” he said.
According to Yermak, Ukraine, together with teams from other countries, has already begun active work on the military component of security guarantees. In particular, they are developing necessary actions in case Russia continues to prolong the war and undermines agreements on bilateral and trilateral formats for leaders’ meetings.
“Ukraine is ready for any format of discussion on an honest end to the war, and we are grateful to President Trump, everyone in America, and everyone in Europe for their support. The corresponding steps must be taken by the Russians, or they must feel additional, truly painful pressure from the world,” Yermak wrote.
He also noted that Ukraine has agreed with its partners to coordinate positions on a daily basis.
On August 18, a meeting was held at the White House with the participation of the President of Ukraine and the leaders of the United States, France, Finland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, as well as the President of the European Commission and the NATO Secretary General. The main topic of the talks was security guarantees for Ukraine.
Allies discussed the possibility of creating a protection mechanism similar in nature to NATO’s Article 5, but operating outside the Alliance.
