Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha and Presidential Strategic Affairs Advisor Oleksandr Kamyshin held talks in Tokyo with Japanese Defense Minister Koizumi Shinjirō.
The Ukrainian foreign minister announced the meeting on X.
"I informed Minister Koizumi about Russia’s large-scale attack against Kyiv and its consequences. Russian strategic bombers that fired cruise missiles at the sleeping people in Kyiv took off from an airbase in the Amursk region of Russia — not far away from Japan. This further underlines that Russia’s war against Ukraine is not that far away. The security of Ukraine and Japan, as well as of Europe and the Indo-Pacific, is directly interlinked," Sybiha said.

He added that the two sides held detailed discussions on shared security challenges, Ukraine's unique experience, ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, its expected outcomes, and future contacts.
Sybiha also thanked Japan, its government, and its people for their comprehensive support for Ukraine since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion.
