On the night of September 12 (starting from 18:00 on September 11), Russian forces attacked Ukraine with:
- Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from Russia’s Voronezh and Rostov regions and temporarily occupied Crimea;
- eight sea-launched Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea;
- six Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles from airspace over the Black Sea;
- 129 Shahed-type strike UAVs, around half of them jet-powered, as well as S8000 Banderol missiles and Parodiya-type decoy drones launched from Kursk and Oryol in Russia, temporarily occupied Donetsk, and Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.
The main target of the attack was the Odessa region.
The air attack was repelled by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
According to preliminary data, as of 08:30, Ukraine’s air defence shot down or suppressed 110 aerial targets:
- six Kalibr cruise missiles;
- one S8000 Banderol missile;
- two Kh-59/69 guided air-launched missiles;
- 101 Russian UAVs, including Shahed and Gerbera drones and other types of UAVs.
Russian missiles and strike UAVs hit 20 locations, while debris from downed targets fell at four locations.
