On the night of September 8 (starting from 18:00 on September 7), Russian forces attacked Ukraine with:
- Oniks anti-ship missiles launched from Russia’s Bryansk and Kursk regions and temporarily occupied Crimea;
- Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles launched from Russia’s Bryansk and Voronezh regions;
- 32 Kh-101 air-launched cruise missiles launched from Russia’s Vologda region;
- 166 Shahed-type strike UAVs, more than half of them jet-powered, as well as Parodiya-type decoy drones launched from Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, temporarily occupied Donetsk, and Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.
The main targets of the attack were the Odessa and Kyiv regions.
The air attack was repelled by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces of Ukraine.
According to preliminary data, as of 08:30, Ukraine’s air defence shot down or suppressed 175 targets:
- 2 Iskander-M/KN-23/S-400/Oniks ballistic missiles;
- 31 Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles;
- 142 Russian Shahed, Gerbera and other types of UAVs.
Russian missiles and strike UAVs hit 29 locations, while debris from downed targets fell at nine locations.
