As of mid-September, 81 companies have joined an experimental project involving the private sector in Ukraine’s air defence system.
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has granted these companies authorised status to carry out air defence measures.
A total of 92 companies from various sectors, regions and forms of ownership have applied to join the private air defence initiative. They include critical infrastructure operators and enterprises, as well as private-sector companies.
The experimental project to involve the private sector in air defence operations was launched at the initiative of the Ministry of Defence in late 2025.
The project is intended to strengthen the protection of employees, production facilities and other company infrastructure that is systematically targeted by Russian drones.
Private air defence forms part of Ukraine’s multi-layered airspace protection system. Private air defence groups do not operate independently but are integrated into the overall system under the command of the Ukrainian Air Force’s Air Command.
