At least 18 people were injured in a Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv overnight and on the morning of September 17, with residential buildings and railway infrastructure among the sites damaged.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the number of people injured had risen to 18 as Russian attacks on the capital continued.
Earlier, police reported 16 casualties, including a 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy. Most of those affected were residents of a damaged 16-storey apartment building in the Dniprovskyi district.
Damage from the attack was recorded in the Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi and Solomianskyi districts. Apartment buildings, educational institutions, a municipal building, vehicles and railway tracks were among the sites affected. Windows and doors of an electric train were damaged, along with facilities at a depot and several other railway sites.
The attack is also affecting long-distance passenger services. Trains including the Odessa–Kharkiv service No. 7/8 and Dnipro–Odessa service No. 53/54 are being diverted along alternative routes, adding approximately six hours to their journeys.
Passengers and railway employees were in a shelter during the attack, and no casualties were reported. Ukrainian Railways said services to Berestyn had not been cancelled while the damaged infrastructure was being inspected.
Police and emergency services are continuing to work at the sites of the strikes in Kyiv, documenting damage and clearing the affected areas.
