In 2026, Ukraine ranked 20th in the Global Firepower ranking of the world’s strongest armies. This was reported by the analytical resource Global Firepower, which evaluated 145 armies worldwide.

A country’s position in the global military power ranking is assessed based on more than 60 indicators. These include not only nominal figures such as the number of soldiers and military equipment but also economic and demographic potential.

Strengths of the Ukrainian army, according to analysts, include:

  • The size of the active army (number of soldiers and reservists, as well as military equipment)
  • Coal production volumes
  • Naval capabilities
  • Size of the railway network
  • Defense spending

Weaknesses include:

  • The absence of submarines, large warships, and domestic tankers
  • High consumption of coal, oil, and gas

In the ranking based on overall factors, Ukraine is positioned near Egypt (19th place) and Poland (21st place).
