The heads of the border agencies of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, Lithuania and Latvia have signed a Joint Declaration on Cooperation aimed at strengthening interaction in the field of border security and establishing common approaches to implementing European standards of state border management, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported.
The meeting took place on July 22 in Chisinau with the participation of Acting Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Major General Valerii Vavryniuk, and heads of the border agencies of Moldova, Lithuania and Latvia.
“The participants discussed the development of cooperation in the areas of risk analysis, combating cross-border crime, personnel training, the use of information technologies and the implementation of modern security tools,” the agency said in a statement published on Thursday.
The participants emphasized that geographically close countries and their border authorities share a common vision of a safe, stable and democratic Europe.
“Following the meeting, the heads of the border agencies signed a Joint Declaration on Cooperation and Support in the process of Ukraine’s and the Republic of Moldova’s integration into the European Union. The declaration strengthens cooperation in the field of border security and defines common approaches to implementing European standards of state border management,” the statement said.
The delegations also held working meetings with Moldova’s Minister of Internal Affairs and the head of the General Inspectorate of the Border Police of Moldova’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as exchanged experience in protecting state borders.
