On the night of July 30, starting from 6:00 p.m. on July 29, Russian forces launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine using strike UAVs and various types of air-, ground- and sea-launched missiles.
The main targets of the attack were the Kyiv and Lviv regions. The Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Mykolaiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were also attacked. A distinctive feature of the massive attack was the simultaneous use of different types of aerial weapons from multiple directions, including a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles.
In total, the Ukrainian Air Force’s radar units detected 358 aerial threats — 74 missiles and 284 UAVs of various types:
- 4 Zircon/Onyx anti-ship missiles, launched from Russia’s Kursk region;
- 9 Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles, launched from Russia’s Bryansk, Voronezh and Kursk regions;
- 61 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles, launched from Russia’s Vologda region and Novorossiysk;
- 284 Shahed strike UAVs, including jet-powered versions, as well as Gerbera and Italmas drones and Parodiya decoy drones, launched from the directions of Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol and Shatalovo in Russia.
The aerial attack was countered by aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, as well as mobile fire groups of Ukraine’s Defense Forces.
According to preliminary data as of 9:00 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses shot down or suppressed 320 targets — 55 missiles and 265 UAVs of various types:
- 1 Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missile;
- 54 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles;
- 265 UAVs of various types.
According to preliminary information as of 9:00 a.m., strikes by three anti-ship missiles, six ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles and 17 strike UAVs were recorded at 20 locations. Debris from intercepted targets fell at 13 locations.
Information regarding eight missiles is still being clarified.
