Ukraine’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Denys Shmyhal, held a meeting with Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar. The parties discussed the current situation in Ukraine’s energy system and its needs in preparation for the upcoming heating season.

“Particular attention was paid to implementing the agreements reached between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding energy partnership and strengthening security in the Black Sea region. We have significant potential to deepen cooperation both at the intergovernmental level and between our companies,” Shmyhal wrote.

He expressed Ukraine’s interest in establishing a new gas supply route using Ukraine’s gas transmission system and underground gas storage facilities.

“This project could provide up to 5 billion cubic meters of gas annually not only for Ukraine but also for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. We are already working on its commercial and technical framework,” Shmyhal emphasized.

The parties also discussed prospects for the joint development of gas fields in the Black Sea.
