Ukraine and Germany have announced the holding of a Ukraine–Germany Bilateral Cultural Season in 2027–2028.
This is stated in the Declaration on Strategic Partnership between the two countries, published on April 14, 2026, following the meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin. The talks took place as part of the resumption of intergovernmental consultations after more than a 20-year break.
The joint press conference, held under the slogan “Partners for a Secure Europe,” showed that the strategic partnership between the countries covers not only security and the economy, but also social and cultural ties.
Cultural relations between Ukrainian and German societies were named one of the three strategic priorities of cooperation.
Within the framework of the Season in Ukraine and Germany, a large-scale programme of events is planned, bringing together cultural institutions, artists, researchers, and broad audiences around cultural dialogue. The programme will include theater and music events, film screenings, exhibitions, joint museum and literary projects, public lectures and discussions, as well as artistic exchanges, university partnerships, and information campaigns in both countries.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Institute, the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, as well as other relevant Ukrainian and German institutions will be involved in preparing and implementing the programme.
