Russian forces attacked a passenger train with drones twice in the Zaporizhzhia region, killing a train attendant.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported this.
“Russian forces struck a passenger train with a UAV, killing a railway employee. The passengers managed to leave the train before the attack — they had been evacuated in advance with the assistance of Ukrzaliznytsia employees,” the statement said.
The strike caused one of the electric train carriages to catch fire. About half an hour later, Russian forces attacked the train again, causing a fire in another carriage.
Rescuers extinguished the fires.
Due to the constant threat of further strikes, they had to repeatedly suspend firefighting operations and take shelter.
Ukrzaliznytsia confirmed that a train attendant was killed in the attack.
“Unfortunately, we have confirmation that our colleague, an attendant on the Dnipro–Zaporizhzhia regional train, was killed in the Russian attack on the passenger train. She returned to the train after the evacuation had already been announced and a warning about the heightened danger had been issued. The strike took her life,” the company’s press service said.
