Romania’s Ministry of National Defence (MApN) issued its third drone alert of the day after Russia sent several drones toward Izmail in Ukraine’s Odessa region, prompting F-18 fighter jets to be scrambled.
According to Romania Journal, two Spanish fighter jets stationed in Romania were urgently scrambled following the MApN alert.
“The MApN radar surveillance system detected an aerial target near the river border with Ukraine on Thursday, August 13, at 3:17 p.m. Two F-18 aircraft operated by the Spanish Air and Space Force and based at the 57th Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base were scrambled at 3:20 p.m. to monitor the situation,” the Romanian military said in a statement.
Two earlier drone alerts had been issued that day. The first was issued at around 1:30 a.m. and the second at approximately 9:13 a.m.
During the second alert, residents of northern Tulcea were urged to remain calm and seek shelter in basements or civil protection shelters.
