Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the opening of Russian polling stations in Transnistria without Chisinau’s consent, describing it as a violation of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Romanian Foreign Ministry stated that holding elections to the Russian State Duma in the Transnistrian region without the consent of Moldova’s constitutional authorities runs counter to efforts to resolve the Transnistrian conflict, the publication noted.
Bucharest reaffirmed its support for Moldova’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry also condemned the holding of State Duma elections from 18 to 20 September in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. It stressed that such actions constitute a serious violation of international law. According to Romania’s position, holding Russian elections in these territories cannot produce any legal consequences or alter their internationally recognised status.
Bucharest also expressed its rejection of Russia’s unilateral actions, which, according to the Romanian Foreign Ministry, undermine the international legal order.
A total of 17 polling stations were opened in Moldova for voting in the State Duma elections. One of them is located in Chisinau and was agreed with the Moldovan authorities. Another 16 polling stations were opened in the Transnistrian region without the consent of Moldova’s constitutional authorities.
