Oleksandr Usyk could hold his farewell fight in the United States. The Ukrainian champion’s team is considering a specific option for a bout against former WBC titleholder Deontay Wilder.
Las Vegas has emerged as the leading candidate to host the high-profile showdown, with the famous T-Mobile Arena considered the most likely venue for the major boxing event. This was reported by Serhii Lapin, director of Usyk’s team.
However, the champion’s team stressed that negotiations with organisers are still ongoing and the final details have yet to be agreed.
The 39-year-old Usyk plans to fight 40-year-old former WBC champion Wilder in March 2027. Although an initial attempt to reach an agreement at the end of last year fell through, the two sides have now resumed active negotiations.
In May, Usyk successfully tested himself against Dutch kickboxer Rico Verhoeven, defeating him by technical knockout. The victory was the Ukrainian’s 25th as a professional, including 16 wins by knockout.
Wilder returned to winning ways in April, defeating Britain’s Derek Chisora by split decision. The American knockout specialist has a professional record of 45 wins, including 43 by knockout, four losses and one draw.
