Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara.
This was stated in a press release from the Italian government on July 8.
"During the meeting, Italy’s strong commitment to stand alongside Ukraine and support a process leading to a just and lasting peace was reaffirmed," the statement said.
Meloni also confirmed to Zelensky that Italy would continue providing assistance to the Ukrainian people, with a particular focus on measures to strengthen the resilience of energy infrastructure, which has been severely damaged by Russian attacks.
The leaders discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defense with additional missiles for air defense systems and the creation of a European Anti-Ballistic Coalition. The President noted that a dedicated European anti-ballistic defense capability is needed by everyone in Europe and that work on it should proceed as actively as possible.
Volodymyr Zelensky and Giorgia Meloni also discussed efforts to develop a Drone Deal between Ukraine and Italy.
