Italy’s Minister of Culture, Alessandro Giuli, paid a working visit to Lviv, where he took part in the second Ukrainian Culture Conference titled “Cooperation for Resilience.” The event was held under the chairmanship of Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Tetiana Berezhna and brought together European partners to coordinate efforts in protecting Ukraine’s cultural sector.

This was reported by Embassy of Italy in Ukraine.

During the conference, Giuli joined European colleagues in expressing solidarity with Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage and national identity amid ongoing Russian aggression. Participants highlighted that cultural sites across the country remain under constant threat, making international cooperation a key element of preservation efforts.

The Italian minister reaffirmed his country’s strong commitment to this cause. Italy is a co-founder of the Culture Resilience Alliance, established in Rome in July 2025, which focuses on supporting cultural preservation in crisis conditions. As part of this effort, Giuli presented a €45 million package of projects aimed at restoring six historical and cultural sites in Odessa.

The initiative, to be implemented by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, also includes the development of a new master plan to protect Odessa’s city center, as well as the training of specialized professionals in partnership with Italy’s Central Institute for Restoration.

On the sidelines of the conference, Giuli, together with Ambassador Formosa, visited several symbolic sites in Lviv that were recently damaged by Russian strikes, including the Church of St. Andrew. The visit served as a gesture of solidarity with the Ukrainian people and a reminder of the cultural losses caused by the war.

Italy has reiterated that its support for Ukraine extends beyond military and economic assistance, encompassing the protection of the country’s cultural identity as an essential part of its resilience.
