Ukraine’s Defence Forces continued systematically degrading the personnel and logistics of the Russian military in August 2026, according to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The effective destruction of Russian personnel and logistics remains among the priorities of Ukraine’s Defence Forces, with the aim of inflicting losses at a level that could force Russia to abandon its plans of aggression. The Russian army’s losses in August marked another step towards this objective.

Last month, Russian forces lost 42,020 personnel killed or wounded. This is one of the highest monthly figures since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

For comparison, Russia lost 42,860 troops in July, 33,760 in May and 39,290 in June.

During the final month of summer, Ukraine’s Defence Forces struck 13,835 Russian vehicles and fuel tankers.

In August, Ukrainian forces also struck approximately:

  • 89 tanks;
  • 197 armoured combat vehicles.

In addition, 1,827 Russian artillery systems were destroyed or damaged.

Systematically inflicting such losses increases the cost of continuing the war for Russia and forces it to devote ever greater resources to replacing personnel, equipment and weapons.
